Archive for February, 2012

I had the pleasure of reviewing a show by Sleeper Agent back in October in Seattle, and they were great live. They’re the last billed on this year’s Coachella poster, too. In the video, the band reinterprets the tea party from Alice In Wonderland with a fiery ending.

You can find the band’s debut album Celebrasion on Amazon and iTunes.

I had the pleasure of interviewing Band of Skulls in August of 2009 and they were a great interview and performed really well acoustically. “Sweet Sour” is the title track on the band’s forthcoming sophomore album, due February 20. The album is streaming now with track-by-track commentary on SPIN.com.

The song has a fantastic riff and bodes well for a more uptempo album than their previous collection (which is evident from the stream). The updated classic rock sound of the band is something that could be a welcome respite from all the dance influenced music on Alternative radio these days.

King Niko “Guns Up” [AUDIO]

King Niko - Guns Up

King Niko, Salt Lake City Weekly’s 2011 Band of the Year, just released another single in “Guns Up”. The band continues to refine their beer-battered synth-pop and show growth from their previous work. You can stream the song below (caution: it will get stuck in your head!) and purchase your own copy on AmazoniTunes, or Bandcamp.com.

Tenacious D - Rize of the Fenix

Tenacious D, Jack Black and Kyle Gass, appear to be making a (hopefully) triumphant return this spring. The teaser track “Rize of the Fenix” was recently posted to the band’s Soundcloud page, and the duo will also perform at this year’s Sasquatch! Music Festival over Memorial Day weekend at the Gorge Amphitheatre.

Listen to “Rize of the Fenix” below. The audio is NSFW, so put on your headphones, then rock.
