Today, strikegently.com was seized by ICE (Immigration & Customs Enforcement) and Department of Homeland Security. The site was a common destination for album leaks, and other copyright infringing downloads.
As the recording industry and television/movie industries panic about how to control the Internet sites like this will continue to be shut down. However, that will not slow the evolution of information in the digital age. It will only embolden the community that frequents such sites. A replacement for Strike Gently will certainly pop up, if not run by the same person/people, by someone else.
Napster should be a sign that piracy, as they call it, cannot be stopped. There will always be a new, better, faster way of getting what a person wants (Kazaa, Limewire, torrents, etc).
However, it appears the brand is not going anywhere, as @strikegently has been tweeting some today.
