By now you’re likely familiar with the lead single from the New Moon Soundtrack, Death Cab For Cutie’s “Meet Me On the Equinox”. Today, those of you that don’t already have the Soundtrack were introduced to the second single, Anya Marina’s “Satellite Heart”. Marina is no stranger to the NMS, as she was featured back in May. Marina was a great guest when she was in studio earlier this year, so I’m excited to share another of her songs with you.

Reaction to the song was mostly positive. Dave called in to say he was already sick of the breathy female singer/songwriter sound that he says has been blowing up over the last year. Not entirely sure what he was talking about, there aren’t too many breathy female singer/songwriters out there, to be honest. Natalie sent a text saying, “I love this song! Lets hear more of it!” I also received several anonymous texts that agreed. One read, “i loved this song in the movie! I think she has a very unique voice and i like it alot.”

If you missed today’s Spotlight, you can hear “Satellite Heart” on Marina’s MySpace page. You can also find her on Facebook, Twitter and her official website.

Hailing from London, but founded by a Swede, Fanfarlo is starting to make waves stateside. The band toured some with Snow Patrol earlier this year, and they were in Salt Lake just last weekend. (I missed the show, unfortunately.) Their album Resevoir is out and available and features today’s spotlight: “Harold T. Wilkins”.

Reaction to the song we very positive. Adam called in and said, “Awesome!” Nikki also called in to gush about the song saying, “Loooved it! Loved it, loved it!” The love was echoed in texts received, too. But my favorite came from Jana, “Might be ok if i could understand a word they said… Sounds like he’s wearing a retainer”.

If you missed today’s Spotlight, you can hear the song on the band’s MySpace page. You can also find them on Facebook, Twitter and their official website.

The Big Pink are from London, and they’ve had quite a good 2009. They received NME’s new artist award at the magazine’s yearly music awards. They also were signed by label 4AD which is the esteemed home of the Pixies. The band has a lot of electronic elements to its sound, but is still a rock band at heart. Today’s Spotlight, “Dominos,” is a very upbeat, almost dancey number.

Reaction to the song was very positive. Lena said she liked it, but could see herself getting sick of it quickly. Jeff called in and said, “Awesome, play it again.” Pauly gave it 3 out of 5 stars. Justin sent in a text that said, “catchy beat. The lyrics kinda remind me of the petshop boys. Thats not a bad thing.” And Sara sent a message that read, “i love it.”

If you missed today’s Spotlight, you can hear “Dominos” on the band’s MySpace page. You can also find them on Facebook and their official website.

Scott Weiland, best known for his lead rolls in Stone Temple Pilots and Velvet Revolver, is also an accomplished solo artist. His second album, “Happy” In Galoshes, was released about this time last year, but was shelved, promotionally speaking, as he rejoined his STP cohorts for some good old world domination. Now the ship is sailing again as Weiland releases the third single from his second solo album.

Reaction to “Tangle With Your Mind” was mostly positive, though there were some detractors, for sure. Dillon called in and said he didn’t care for the song at all. Conversely, Alex said, “Great song, man. Keep playing it.” Natalie sent a text that read, “it wasnt horrible but i didnt love it either.” One anonymous text said, “THIS is Scott Weiland? Would never have guessed. Not bad, but sounds suspiciously like Matchbox 20.” Other texts included, “Like it.” “Thumbs up” and “good!” Meredith gave some twitter feedback saying, “Fine, OK, might grow on me. Reminds me of Tom Petty, but [Weiland]‘s a better singer.”

If you missed today’s Spotlight, you can hear the song on Weiland’s MySpace page. You can also find Weiland on Facebook, Twitter and his official website.

**Update: Unfortunately, the good people at Dick Clark Productions have been scouring the interwebs for any evidence of Adam Lambert performing at the AMAs and have removed all videos from YouTube. Do a Google search and you should be able to come up with something since ABC hasn’t posted any official peformance videos on their own site.**

Adam Lambert, American Idol Season 8 Runner Up, performed at last night’s American Music Awards. His performance, not surprisingly, was very gothic and very sexual. And by very, I mean way over the top. I’m certainly no prude, but there were a couple moments in his performance where even I thought, “Wow, that’s a bit much!”

For those that dare, watch the performance of “For Your Entertainment” below.

Lambert’s album, available tomorrow, is expected to outsell Idol winner Kris Allen, whose album was released last week.

Find out more at Lambert’s official website.

Last time I played Florence + The Machine on the Spotlight I had just heard of the band. Since then, I’ve really fallen in love with this album. It certainly doesn’t hurt that Florence Welch is a gorgeous redhead, but it’s really her voice and musical stylings that I love. Her voice is booming, the music has an epic feel to it, and even when she’s singing about sad subject matter, the music has an uplifting element to it.

Reaction to the song was positive, as it was last time. Dillon was the only caller who didn’t like it. Jerri said, “I loved it! It really reminded me of Sarah McLachlan.” Albert called in at the last second to say, “It was different, but I need to hear it again to make a good decision, but I kinda liked it.” It appears that our text service has frozen up, but not before “Love it!” snuck through from an anonymous listener.

If you missed today’s Spotlight, you can hear “Rabbit Heart (Raise It Up)” on her official website. You can also find the band on Facebook, Twitter and MySpace.
