Lenka is an artist that you’re more than likely familiar with as a listener of 101.9 The End. We have been playing her song “The Show” for some time, and she’s been in the End Zone a couple of times. In discussions with her record label about future singles one track that always comes up is “Trouble Is A Friend.” And with her making a video for the song, I think it’s safe to say it’s the next single. With her coming to town tomorrow night at the Avalon Theater, I figured it would be apropos to play a song for the NMS.

If you missed it today, you can listen on her MySpace page. You can also find Lenka on Facebook, Twitter and her official website.

It’s no secret that I’m on Twitter. On my recent road trip to the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival I posted frequent updates about the goings on. Here is a narrative of the weekend, filled in here and there with the tweets I posted.

Can’t sleep. Too excited! 2:49 AM Apr 16th from txt

And so began my Coachella weekend. I was all packed and ready to go, knowing that early in the morning I would put all my gear in the Rental car and head off to Flagstaff, Phoenix, and eventually Indio, California, for yet another whirlwind weekend full of great music and great friends. I was able to get some sleep, and even though it was only a few hours, I felt surprisingly refreshed the next morning.

Beck first stormed into the American music scene in 1994 with his song and video for “Loser.” A slacker anthem like none before (or since?) that still helps to define the early/mid-90s grunge movement. Before Mellow Gold was released, he had recorded One Foot In The Gravein his cousin Calvin Johnson’s basement in Olympia. The then fledgling Dub Narcotic Studios and K Records birthed what has come to be known as one of Beck’s best albums, if not best selling.

One Foot is now seeing a renaissance as it is reissued in a deluxe version featuring 16 unreleased tracks from that time period. The first track on the album, “He’s A Mighty Good Leader,” is today’s New Music Spotlight.

If you missed the song, you can find a mp3 on skreemr.com. Then head to Beck’s MySpace, Facebook, Twitter or his official website to find out more.

I first heard about Andy Davis when he came to town with the Ten Out of Tenn tour featuring Erin McCarley. My friend Lindsay is gaga over him! He played “Brown Eyes” at Kilby Court that night and I fell in love with the song instantly, and I think you will, too.

If you missed today’s NMS, you can hear the song on Davis’ MySpace page. You can also find him on Facebook, Twitter or his official website.

Chris Cornell is perhaps best known as the lead singer of Soundgarden and Audioslave, but he also has three no-less listenable solo albums. His first two solo outings were more of a rock or acoustic undertaking, whereas his most recent release is a collaboration with hip-hop guru Timbaland and is very much a top-40 sounding album. I had the pleasure of sitting down with him before his performance at the Depot on April 25th, I played a portion of that interview for the NMS today, and his latest single, a rock mix of “Long Gone” from his album Scream.

I hope to get the whole interview posted as a podcast on 1019theend.com sooner rather than later, and you can hear “Long Gone” (the album version) on Cornell’s MySpace page. You can also find Cornell on Facebook, Twitter or his official website.
